Abstrakt | The hypothalamic syndrome (HS) is characterized by obesity, hypothermia, hypersomnolence, central sleep apneas, severe bradycardia with endocrine and electrolyte dysfunctions. A treatment with clomipramine firstly described by Laron(1986), resulted in a clear improvement of central apneas, biochemical and clinical parameters. In our previous study, we described two cases of HS with severe central sleep apneas who showed a good response to the treatment with fluoxetine, a specific 5HT reputake inhibitor, suggesting also a role of serotonin in respiratory control and in some endocrine dysfunctions. The treatment was prolonged for about 2 years. The improvement of clinical and respiratory parameters persisted along the time nevertheless the fluoxetine withdrawal. We described the results of the five years follow.-up. | |
