Abstrakt		The research group of Krka, Novo mesto, the Department of Chemical Educvation and Informatics of the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia have developed and tested a completely non-toxic physically active pesticide. Nontox is a new, environmentally friendly pesticide for combating small pests. The basic component is a water-soluble modified starch dextrin, the product of high-temperature acid hydrolysis of natural starches. After spraying a plant, a thin film is formed on its surface which entraps, immobilises and destroys small insects and spider mites. Dried film flakes off and the residues are washed off by rain or watering. The physical action prevents the development of insect resistance. Being completely non-toxic, Nontox is the most suitable for the use indors and in water-protected areas. There is also no need for a post-harvest period in the treatment of crops.
