Abstrakt     For diagnostic methods for detection of dermatophytosis in domestic animals we compared. All the samples from dogs and cats were analysed by cultural examinations, dermatophytes were isolated from 27,06% samples and they belonged to three different species. Microsporum canis was isolated from 92,37% among all positive cases, Trichophyton mentagrophytes from 6,78% and Microsporum gypseum from 0.85%. Sabouraud agar with chloramphenicol and actidion was the most suitable medium for cultural examination. Wood's lamp examinations was positive in 47.83% and is only a screening method and not definitive. Microscopic examinations of hairs after digestion with lactophenol were positive in 42.25% and fluorescent microscopic examination after digestion with KOH and staind with calcofluor were positive in 54.93%. Both microscopic techniques were useful primarily for further conformation of suspicious samples and were not recommended routinely. A comparision of protein profiles among different dermatophyte species (M. canis, M. gypseum, T. mentagouphytes, T. verrucosum) showed evident differences, therefore the method sodyum dodecylsulphat poliacrylamid gel electrophoresis (SDS PAGE) was useful for identification of species.
