Abstrakt | After primary infection Epstein-Barr virus like other members of Herpesvirus family establishes latency, but it may be reactivated in any time due to several reasons: among those most frequent are mild or severe states of immunodeficiency. Both latency and reactivation should be considred on the molecular level: during latency in B lymphocytes only a small part of viral genome is active; in reactivation additional genes become activated. Enzyme immunoassay using recombinant antigens enables to define reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus. In the period of 9 months typical or atypical reactivation was determined in 110 patients: 20 of them were children up to 12 years of age. Patients complained about febrile state, lymphadenitis and splenomegalia; some of them were after organ transplantation or had malignant tumors. | |
