Abstrakt		The author presents data about the increase in the prevalence of atopic diseases, especially of asthma and allergic rhinitis in children. He describes two interesting hypotheses proposed by Strachan and Mygind and an applicable suggestion from Holt about prophylactic measures for protection against atopic diseases. The clinical picture, diagnotic procedures and stepwise management of allergic rhinitis are then described. The importance of aetiological treatment with specific immunotherapy and the evaluation of the protection in asthma are emphasized. New methods of application of medication, especially intranasal immunotherapy, are mentioned. Alternative medical treatments are described but the results of studies of these treatments are stil contradictory. In conclusion, the importance of good parent and child education about the disease is stressed. They must actively participate in the treatment and contribute to its success and to improvement ot their quality of life.
Izvleček		Avtor prikaže najprej podatke o vse višji prevalenci atopijskih bolezni, posebno astme in alergijskega nahoda pri otrocih. Opiše dve zanimivi hipotezi, ki sta ju predstavila Strachan in Mygind, ter uporaben predlog preprečevanja atopijskih bolezni po Holtu. Sledijo klinične slike, smernice za diagnostiko in stopenjsko zdravljenje nahoda. Poudaril je pomen vzročnega zdravljenja in preprečevanja nastanka astme s specifično imunoterapijo. Omenil je nove načine izvedbe s poudrkom na intranazalni poti. Opisal je možnosti metod alternative medicine, čeprav so rezultati študij protislovni. V zaključku poudarja pomen dobrega seznanjanja staršev in otrok z boleznijo, ker morajo pri zdravljeju tudi samodejavno sodelovati in tako prispevati k uspehu in k izboljšanju kakovosti življenja.
