Abstrakt | During the last 10 years there were 64.7% males among 56 patients treated with liver resection for primary liver carcinoma (PLC). Moslty they were between 50 and 70 years old (69.1%). Hepatocellular type of PLC (HCC) was the commonest type of these tumours (80.3%), in 83% accompanied with cirrhotic rearrangement of liver parenchyma. The primary risk factor (85%) for the development of cirrhosis and later PLC was excessive drinking of alcohol over rather prolonged period of time. Radical liver resection was achieved in 80.4% of cases. Tumours grew up mostly (75%) in right liver lobe. The diameter of the studied malignancies was estimated at 55 +/- 5 mm and was independent of the histologic type of the growths. According to TNM classification, 28 patients were categorised in stage 3 and 4 at the time of surgical procedure. Tumours were solitary in80.4%. We observed trabecular and pseudoglandular histologic patterns in 80% of these tumours. Well-differentiated tumours according to Edmondson-Steiner classification were rare (12.5%), less differentiated ones, however frequently comprised abundant areas of necrosis. Fibrous capsule enclosed the tumours in 60.7% of cases. Histological expression of onkoprotein c-ErbB-2 in tumourous tissue was associated with cirrhosis, satellite nodes around the primary tumour, vascular invasionand abundant areas of necrosis in tumour. Expression of c-myc protein in tumourous tissue was more often observed in multinoudlar and massive type of growths described by Eggel, as well as with ascular invasion and c-ErbB-2- expression in the tumourous tissue at the same time. No significant correlation was found between the presence of c-neu protein in the surrounding liver tissue and histopathological findings in the tumours.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters) | |
