Abstrakt     We investigated gametophyte development, and the influence of 0.01-100 microM jasmonic acid (JA) on gametophyte and sporophyte development of Platycerium bifurcatum (Cav.) C.Chr. After 20 days in culture, the gametophytes were of different shapes, papillae were usually formed; after 30 days the heart shape was indicated and the marginal meristem was developed; after 45 days gametophytes were heart-shaped and on the ventral side rhizoids as well as antheridia were formed. The results of JA influence on the growth of gametophytes were variable. 1.0-10 NM JA stimulated the growth of gametophytes, while 100 NM JA inhibited it. 0.01, 0.1 and 10 NM of JA stimulated also cell divisions, the formation of papillae, and the size of gametophytic areas. After 30 days 0.01-1.0 NM of JA stimulated the growth of gametophytes, while 10 and 100 NM JA inhibited it. After 40 days, 1.0-100 NM JA inhibited the growth of all gametophytes. Two month after transfer to hormone free media, the number of leaves were increased on the sporophytes which had previously grown on the media with 1.0 NM JA. Growth of leaves was stimulated by 0.01- 1.0 NM JA or had no influence at the same concentration, while 100 NM JA inhibited it. On the basis of these effects of JA on gametophyte and sporophyte culture of the fern P. bifurcatum and on the basis of data from the literature, we conclude that JA also has a regulatory role in developmental processes in Pteridophyta.
