Abstrakt     The firs X-ray system was bought by prim. dr. E. Šlajme rand installed at the general hospital of Ljubljana in 1900, only five years after Roentgen's discovery of X-rays. In the year 1923 the Roentgenology Institute for Slovenia and Istria was founded by prim. dr. A. Kunst, who was the first Slovene roentgenologist, and the pioneer of Slovene roentgenology. The second Slovene roentgenologist, dr. J. Hebein, finished his specialization in 1926. He became the head of the Institute in 1945 and kept the position until 1961. He was also the founder of the Department of Roentgenology at the Medical Faculty of Ljubljana in 1945 and the first Slovene professor of roentgenology. In 1951 he established the High School for Radiographers and became its first director. He was also the founder and the first president of Association of Radiology, Slovenian Medical Society. From 1961 till 1974 the head of the Institute was professor dr. S. Hernja, who also had the position of the head of Department of Roentgenology until 1981. Prof. dr. !. Obrez was the head of the Institute from 1974-1989. Prof. dr. L. Tabor held the position of the head of Department of Roentgenology from 1981-1993. The history of the Radiology Institute has been characterised by continuous introduction of the new radiological technologies and the new investigative techniques, increasing number of radiologists and radiographers, room enlargement and the growing number of examinations. Presently, nowadays the Institute is comparable to similar modern middleeuropean radiological institutions.
