Abstrakt		Purpose: Traumatic cataract in children is rare, more frequently associated with penetrating eye injury. Due to improvements in surgical techniques, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is now commonly performed. Posterior capsule opacification is the most common complication. Case report: Surgical procedure for traumatic cataract in 18-month-old child following penetrat- ing eye injury is presented on the video. A 5-6 mm long tunnel into the clear cornea was made. Posterior synechiae were lysed at the time of surgery. The lens zonulas were stretched on the temporal side and the lens was slightly displaced to the nasal side. After the synechiolysis the stretch was relieved and the lens was placed into the normal position. After anterior capsulorhexis the lens material was aspirated with phacoemulsification and finished with irigation/aspiration hand-piece. The posterior capsulorhexix was performed and the IOL was placed into the capsular bag. Conclusion: Implantation of IOL for unilateral traumatic cataract provide a better prognosis of visual development, however IOL lens implantation does not reduce the need for lasting and exqui-site amblyopia therapy.
