Abstrakt		Diastasis, a bigger distance between the two rectus muscles can be seen in a newborn when there is a general weakness of the muscles. Umblical hernia is a protrusion of the abdominal contents, in a hernia sac, through the umbilical ring. This ring can close spontaneously inthe first year of life. We reviewed the children operated in the last five years and found that we had not operated on any diastasis of the muscles. We operated seventeen children with umbilical hernia, ten boys and seven girsl, none of which were incarcerated. We always used the Mayo method. It is not necessary to operate on the diastasis. Umbilical hernia should be operated electively in the second or third year of life
