Abstrakt		Background. Analysis of the current state in treatment of groin hernia in Slovenia. Methods. On the basis of a questionnaire sent to all surgical departments in Slovenia, data for 2593 (93%) out of 2787 patients operated in the year 1996 were obtained. Results. The incidence of groin hernia in Slovenia is similar as inother European countries (130/100.000). The preferential method of treatment in primary hernia is Bassini-repair and its modifications (70%). Shouldice-repair was very rarely performed. Accurate data about the frequency of recurrent hernia are not known. Tension-free and laparoscopic methods were already introduced in the year 1996 in majority of surgical departments. Conclusion. Traditional methods are still most widely used in treatment of groin hernia in Slovenia. Tension-free techniques are becoming routinely applied procedures. For evaluationof the new methods exact documentation about procedure is necessary.
