Abstrakt     Inguinal tension free hernia repair under local anaesthesia is a simple and safe kind of operation. Complications are rare if the maximal dose of local anaesthetics is not exceeded or if two of them are combined. Patients stay in hospital only twenty-four hours after the intervention. Our experiences during and after the procedure are described. During the last three years (1995-1997) in our department 33 patients were treated (mean age 56). In some of them the contraindications for total anaesthesia were present. Save for a lew examples of mild bradicardia, there were no other complications. It is considered that inguinal hernia repair under local anaesthesia is a safe, simple and low cost procedure.
