Abstrakt		Liver failure, especially in its acute form, is a devastating disease. OLT has revolutionized the treatment of advanced disease, and careful medical management increases the chance that the patient will survive until an organ is located. Liver support will require a device which combines the conventience of hemodialysis and the efficacy of liver transplantation. Such hybrid devices are now being tested in clinical trials, and should allow patients to recover from acute liver failure, or to be supported safely until OLT can be performed.
