Abstrakt     Maxillofacial trauma after gunshot injuries of the face cause serious disruption of the soft tissue, bony and cartilaginous components of the upper airway. This lead to incomplet or complet airway closure. Unrelieved airway closure will lead to life threatening hypoxia or to death by asphyxiation. Successful endotracheal intubation of the patient is one of the methods of securing the airway. When there is a possibility of injury to the cervical spine, securing the airway is best accomplished by awake intubation. Other methods of securing the airway are the Transtracheal Catheter Ventilation and the Percutaneous Dilatational Cricothyrotomy. There is one contraindication: Physicians who are unfamiliar or inexperienced with this technique.
