Abstrakt     Successful resuscitation of patients in the emergency out-clinic depends to a large extent on a qualified nursing team that must be ready to initiate or continue resuscitation measures whenever necessary. Its members must be competent, efficient and capable of coordinated work. There is no place for panic, deficient communication or ignorance. Adequate training of all team members in resuscitation techniques and strict observance of all relevant guidelines are essential for successful work. The nurse plays an important part in the resuscitation procedure. She must make sure that all equipement functions properly and due measures for prevention of infection are undertaken. She must know the exact role and function of all other team members and must obey the instructions of the responsible physician. The authors outline the nurse's tasks in different phases of the resuscitation procedure and discuss some important aspects of her work, e.g. coping with stress, maintenance of concentration, showing respect for the patient and offering support to the family. The maintenance of accurate records allows the nurse to analyse and appraise her work.
