Abstrakt		BACKGROUND. Respiratory diseases represent a considerable health problem in our country as well as abroad In general health service this kind of diseases is moat frequent reason of visiting the general practician. METHODS The study Gomprises the patients having been treated for respiratoty diseases in the outpatients' department III in Trbovlje during the first half of 1995. It also includes the periodical apperance of respiratory diseases and the need for specialist and hospital treatment. RESULTS Respiratory diseases are the most ot reason of visiting the gencral practician in the outpatients' department III in Trbovlje. Women fall ill more often than men (according to the data of Outpatients' Department III the number of women insurants is four times higher than the number of men insurants). The majority of patiens fall ill in winter period. The percentage of patients sent to specialist treatment is low. CONCLUSIONS The consequence of respiratory diseases is sick leave and disability of patients and due to that the early diagnostics and treatment of these diseases is of great social and economic significance.
