Abstrakt		Background. Lung function testing started 152 years ago with the description of FVC maneuver by J. Hutchinson. Recent advances in assessment of lung function provided new insights in lung mechanics and called for novel standards for performing spirometry in clinical practice. It has been postulated that the flows during the FVC manuvr depend significantly on the pattern of the preceding inspiratory maneuver. The preceding inspiration should therefore be standardized. Conclusions. The negative experatory pressure (NEP) technique provides a simple and reliable tool for detecting expiratory flow-limitation both at rest and during the forced expiratory maneuvers.
Izvleček		Izhodišča. V razvoju preiskav pljučne funkcije z začetkom pred 152 leti s Hutchinsonovim opisom spirometrije so nova spoznanja o mehaniki dihanja postavila nove ahteve stroki pri standardizaciji samega postopka spirometrije v klinični praksi. Ugotovljeno je, da je pretok med izvajanjem manevra forsirane eksperacijske vitalne kapacitete (FVKe) odvisen od načina in trajanja predhodnega vdiha, kar v dosedanjih navodilih za merjenje VFKe ni upoštevano. Zaključki. Nova metoda uporabe zunanjnega negativnega pritiska med izdihom (NEP) pa omogoča meritve omejitve pretoka med izdihom tako pri mirnem dihanju, kot med izvajanjem forsiranih eksperacijskih manevrov.
