Abstrakt     The changes in sepsis rate, mortality and causative microorganisms in newborns treated in the multidisciplinary neonatal and paediatric ICU, University Medical Centre Ljubljana in the last 15 years are described. The newborns have namely represented the largest group of patients and sepsis rate was two-three times that of older cildren. A decrease in the number of Gram negative bacteria from 60 to 20% of all blood culture isolates was noted. Parallel to this a decrease in mortality rate from 56 to under 10% was seen. At the same time the number of coagulase negative staphylococci (C-NS) increased up to 60% of all isolates. Open questions in the diagnostics, treatment and prevention of C-NS sepsis are presented.
