Abstrakt		Anemia due to iron deficiency belongs among the oldest and most frequent diseases, regardless of sex, age or social status of the affected person. Our paper discusses normal iron metabolism, the most frequent causes of sideropenic anemia in adults, diagnostic procedures, treatment and guidelines for distinguishing between the individual types of microcytic anemia.
