Abstrakt     Mitral valve prolapse (PMV) is mitral leaflets prolapsing into the left atrium during ventricular systole comprising mid-systolic click with or without late systolic murmur. Mitral valve prolapse syndrome (PMVS) is PMV with precordial pain, headache, dizziness, palpitation or syncope. Silent PMV is PMV without physical findings. We studied the prevalence of mitral valve prolapse (PMV) in the group of 656 children and adolescents (329 male, 327 female). We considered positive results in those children and adolescents who had positive ECHO M-mode finding. Assuming PMV as a cause of cardiac arrhythmias beside standard ECG we also performed Holter ECG in the subgroup of 61 children and adolescents (29 with PMV 32 without PMV). The PMV was found in 71 patients (10,8%); (32 m, 39 f). According to the age and sex we found lower prevalence of the PMV in boys (9,7%) related to the girls (11,9%).The prevalence of the PMV rises with age in both sexes. Negative auscultatory finding (silent PMV) was detected in 47,8% of the patients with the PMV. Most of the patients with diagnosed PMV had no symptoms (71,8%). The prevalence of the asymptomatic patients with the PMV declines with the age in both sexes. The prevalence of the arrhythmias, both in standard and in Holter ECG is higher in the group of the patients with the PMV (6,8%:0-NS; 44,6%: 9,3%- p<0,05).The influence of the constitutional changes (dolichostenomelia, asthenic constitution, genua valga) on the appearance of the PMV showed statistically significant difference in the Rohr's index in the group of the patients with the PMV' according to the healthy group (p<0,05). Fisher's Chi square test emerged statistically significant prevalence of headache and dizziness in the group of children and adolescents with the PMV (p<0,05).
