Abstrakt     Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) can be a fatal complication of serious clinical conditions in critically ill neonates. DIC most often develops within the complex of multiple organ failure in the most severe forms of septic conditions: septic shock, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), sepsis (SIRS plus clinically confirmed infection), severe sepsis, hypotension and infection. Despite the progress of intensive treatment of neonates and premature infants, the outcome of DIC treatment is frequently death. The mortality rate due to this complication is still high and amounts to 80% or more. Physiological hemostasis maturation and its correlation with the infant's age should also be stressed.
