Abstrakt     Processes of postnatal development and differentiation of mouse urothelium were analysed by light and electron microscopy using morphological and cytochemical methods. Proliferation, cell detachment and differentiation were studied at postnatal days from birth until 21 and in adult mice. Level of proliferation of urothelial cells is high from birth until 21th postnatal day due to growth and regeneration, while in adult mice is very low. Tissue homeostasis is occasionally disrupted by cell detachment. From the day of birth until 5th postnatal day apoptosis takes place, whereas between 6th and 9th postnatal day superficial cells desquamate from urothelium. Proliferation is accompanied by differentiation, which is reflected in synthesis of different cytokeratins, synthesis of uroplakins and successive changes of apical surfaces of superficial cells. Cytokeratin 7 is synthesised in all urothelial cells, so we conclude that it is not precise marker of differentiation. Cytokeratin 20 is limited to all superficial cells despite their different stages of differentiation. Therefore we establish that it is not specific marker of cell differentiation. Differentiation is reflected also in synthesis of uroplakins, which takes place in Golgi apparatus. For these reason we studied role of Golgi apparatus in formation of apical plasma membrane of superficial cells. Results of this analysis show that three different periods of activity of GA are present. GA is very stable and active compartment in first and second period, while for third period (which begins 9th postnatal day) variation in GA activity are typical. These results confirm active part of GA in growth of urothelium and differentiation of superfical cells during nine days after birth. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)
