Abstrakt     The pelvic floor is the structure consisting of the muscles and connective tissues closing the pelvic outlet. The most important component of the structure is the muscle levator ani through which the organs of the pelvis (urethra, vagina, rectum) traverse. The optimal function of the lower urinary tract (the urethra and the bladder) is ensured by the intact morphologic components of the lower urinary tract, and by the proper positon or stability of both structures, for which the activity of the pelvic floor is responsible. In women with the changed or insuficient pelvic floor function, urinary incontinence is a frequent consequence.
