Abstrakt     Besides titanium and cobalt alloys, stainless steel is one of the most frequently used material in orthopedics. The electrochemical properties of stainless steels were studied in simulated biological environment, i.e. physiological Hank's solution, as a function of molybdenum content in the alloy and the addition of complexing agents, i.e. EDTA and citrate, to the solution. The complexing agents were used to simulate the influence of serum proteins in human body. Although in vitro studies cannot completely simulate in vivo conditions, they represent a valuable contribution to the better understanding of the process, which occur upon implantation of a metal in human body.
