Abstrakt		The demographic situation in the republic of Slovenia at the moment has the characteristics of post-transition stage in the evolution of the population. A most important demographic development in Slovenia appears to be the further ageing of the population. Basic characteristic of current demographic movement are low fertility and natural increase. The combined effects of ageing and declining fertility raise question about the claims and social role of elderly people and pose major cultural, educational, economic and health challenge for the future.
