Abstrakt     On the grounds of the organisms recovered from the lungs, oropharynx and stomach we searched for the transmission of colonization, as the previous event to pulmonary infection in a group of ventilated patients receiving enteral intragastric nutrition and in a group of ventilated, parenteral-fed patients. Three days after the institution of ventilatory support, colonization of the lower respiratory tract occured in 94.2% of the patients. Nasogastric tube was the source of colonization in only 3 patients: with parenteral-fed in solely one patient and with enteral in two patients. Oropharynx was the commonest source of colonization (47.5%). This sugests that continuous gastric enteral feeding was not an important source of lower respiratory tract colonisation in our patients.
