Abstrakt     In our study we observed the presence, distributioon and intensity of accumulation of cysteine and aspartic proteinase inhibitors in shoot tips, leaves and stems of secondary infected potato plants Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Desiree with the aggressive potato virus Y-PVY NTO-SLO, the causative agent of potato tuber necrotic disease (PTNRD). The potato plants were propagated in stem node tissue culture. After 4 weeks apical shoots, leaves and stems were fixed, dehydrated and embedded in methacrylate resin HM20. After immunolabelling using the protein A-gold method on ultrathin sections, the sections were and examined in transmission electron microscope. In systemically infected plants we demonstrated the induction of potato cysteine proteinase inhibitor PCPI 6.6 in all plant parts, multicystatin predominated mainly in the leaves and shoot tips, while the synthesis of aspartic proteinase inhibitors (API) was induced in the shoot tips. These experiments show us that virus infection induces the expression of protein inhibitors differently in different plant parts, implying that these inhibitors are part of potato defence mechanism against virus infection.
