Abstrakt		The way from synthesis of amphetamine and its use for therapeutic purposes to Ihe abuse of this drug and its derivative, is described. The declining of the therapeutic value was followed by abuse and consequently the illicit production and trade. The most important derivative of amphetamine ecstasy, became in 90-th a global problem. Its illicit production is mostly connected to regions with the most widely spread abuse. Amphetamine-type stimulants, namely eEstasy became "socially acceptable" in some social structures, especially among young population. Exact psychological and somatic consequences of the abuse are not reliably confirmed, though there are indications for withdrawal depression, difficulties in body coordination, changes into unproductive hyperactivity, unexplained traffic accidents, harm fetal effects, possible infections with contagious diseases like aids... It is time for greater concern and attention of the society in general for the problems connected with the abuse of amphetamine-type stimulants.
Izvleček		V članku je opisana pot od sinteze amfetamina in njegove uporabe v terapevtske namene do zlorabe tega zdravila in njegovih izpeljank. Postopnemu zmanjševanju terapevtske vrednosti je sledila zloraba in s tem nedovoljena proizvodnja in promet. Najpomembnejše izpeljanke amfetamina, pripravki ecstasy, so postali v 90. letih svetovni problem. Njihova nezakonita izdelava se največkrat omejuje na regije, kjer je njihova zloraba najbolj razširjena. Amfetaminski stimulanti oziroma ecstasy so postali "družbeno sprejemIjivi" v nekaterih plasteh družbe, zlasti med mladimi. Prave psihične in somatske posledice zlorabe še niso zanesljivo dognane čeprav omenjajo depresijo zaradi prenehanja jemanja, težave v koordinaciji telesa, zmanjšana učinkovitost na delovnem mestu, nepojasnjene prometne nesreče, škodljivi učinki na plod možnosti okužbe z virusom aidsa... Nujna je večja pozomost družbene skupnosti glede zlorabe amfetaminskih stimulantov.
