Abstrakt     Disturbances of ventricular repolarization are among the key parameters associated with ventricular tachyarrhythmias. While many studies have demonstrated changes in ventricular repolarization following acute myocardial infarction, data describing ventricular repolarization in chronic coronary patients without prior acute myocardial infarction are scarce. The aim of our study was to evaluate the dynamics of ventricular repolarization in the latter subgroup of coronary patients. Our study was based on case/control design. The study group consisted of 30 male coronary patients with angina pectoris, who had not suffered from acute myocardial infarction, while the control group consisted of 30 healthy male age-matched volunteers without syptoms of previous or present coronary artery disease. To evaluate the degree of coronary artery disease in the study group subjects, coronary angiography was pertormed. The dynamics of ventricular repolarization was analysed using a novel methodologic approach based on beat-to-beat QT interval variability measurements. The results demonstred a high degree of variability of high and low frequency components of ventricular repolarization in the study group. The variability of ventricular repolarization in these patients was significantly higher compared to the subjects in the control group (p<0.001). Our findings also pointed out a statistically significant correlation between high-frequency components of QT interval variability and the degree of coronary artery disease in study group (p<0.05). Based on these results we may speculate that patients with coronary artery disease who had not suffered from acute myocardial infarction have significantly higher degree of ventricular repolarization variability than normal subjects.
