Abstrakt     Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), the new disease of cattle, was first confirmed by histopatologicall investigation in November 1986 in United Kingdom. In the next few years it was spread on a whole British island. Disease occurs in adult animals usually more than 5 years old. Clinically disease exhibit changes in mental status, abnormalities of movement and sensation. The most plausible explanation for the occurrence of BSE is meat-and bone meal infected with scrapie infectious agent which had been incorporated into concentrate feedstuffs as a protein-rich supplement for cattle. Diagnoses can be made on the basis of neuroparechymal vacuolation in the brain. In Slovenia active surveillance on the presence of BSE is going on since 1992, with no positive cases of the disease up to now .
