Abstrakt		Platelets are transfused in prophylactic or therapeutic purpose to thrombocytopenic patients or to patients with thrombocytopathia. Therapeutic indication is the most frequently bleeding in thrombocytopenic hemato - oncological patients and it is often urgent condition. For prevention of bleeding in thrombocytopenic patients - prophylactic indications - opinions are still different, especially because of different favour for bleeding in patients with equal number of platelets and because of many other clinical factors influenced bleeding. Platelet concentrates have limited shelf life to 5 days and sometimes is hard to ensure sufficient platelet inventories. Consequently, it is very important to know when to transfuse platelets and to have real indication for them; only then the use of platelets will be more rational.
