Abstrakt		A medical history of returning from a tropical country by a patient with altered consciousness increases the number of possible causes. Quite a few infections tropical diseases can present with altered consciousness and doctors must keep this in mind in their approach to diagnosis. This article presents epidemiological data, etiology, and basic diagnostic and therapeutic measurres in the treatment of cerebral malaria, bacterial meningitis, viral encephalitides, African trypanosomiasis and rabies.
Izvleček		Anamnestični podatek o bivanju v tropih pri bolniku z motnjami zavesti poveča število možnih vzrokov za moteno zavest. Kar nekaj infekcijskih tropskih bolezni lahko poteka s klinično sliko motenj zavesti, kar moramo upoštevati pri diferencialnodiagnostični obdelavi takšnega bolnika. V članku so predstavljeni epidemiološki podatki, etiologija, osnovni diagnostični in terapevtski postopki pri cerebralni malariji, bakaterijskem meningitisu, virusnih encefalitisih, afriški tripanosomiazi in steklini.
