Abstrakt | Congenital toxoplasmosis represents infection of the newborn caused by Toxoplasma gondii. Fetal infection is present only in acute infection of the woman during pregnancy. Her disease can be asymptomatic, yet it can cause stillbirth or severe fetal injury with subsequent disabilities in her child. In Slovenia, screening of all pregnant women for toxoplasmosis was legislated in 1995. Our report on two cases of congenital toxoplasmosis, followed by major handicapping conditions, points out the significance of early detection, treatment and prevention of this disease. | |
