Abstrakt     A random sample of 127 women with a stable urinary bladder was selected on the basis of history and clinical evaluation. Seventy-nine subjects complained of stress urinary incontinence. These were divided in two groups: wet by history / dry by clinical evaluation (ms, 41 subjects), wet by history and by clinical evaluation (mm, 38 subjects). The remaining 48 subjects served as the control group. Function of the urethra was evaluated by the urethral pressure profile (UPP), using static variables (UPP length, functional length, distance between the bladder neck and the point of maximum urethral closure pressure - MUCP) and dynamic studies (pressure transmission ratio in the supine and erect positions - PTR supine / erect). Electric conductance of the urethra was measured at or distal to the MUCP point (DUEC test). A short positive deflection (< Is), indicating a sudden increase in conduction within the urethra during coughing, was taken as a sign of the presence of urine /fluid in the urethra distal to the continence zone (DUEC I+). Statistical evaluation of the results was performed with the analysis of variance and discriminant analysis. Statisticaly significant differences (p < 0.01) between the ms and mm groups as well as between DUEC I- and DUEC I+ subjects were obtained for the following urodynamic variables; UPP profile length, functional length, MUCP, PTR supine/erect and pad test. The discriminant function Y showed the initial classification as ms/mm to be correct for 90.7 % of the subjects and confirmed the DUEC test result for 89.5 % of the subjects.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)
