Abstrakt     Hyperthermia is an elevation of core temperature without elevation of the hypothalamic set point. The autoregulatory mechanism of fever is not functioning and the temperature is usually more than 40 degrees C. Temperature elevation associated with toxicologic emergencies is caused by excessive muscular hyperactivity, an increased metabolic rate, impared dissipation of heat or hypothalamic disorders. Toxicologic temperature elevations require external cooling measures and control of excess muscular activity such as convulsions. Antipyretics are not useful in these cases.
