Abstrakt     Five decades into antibiotic area, bacterial puerperal infections continue to pose a common and occasionaly severe threat to women after childbirth. Especially in view of the recent rise in cesarean section rates and the greater risk of infection after S.C., we cannot expect this problem to abate. Sources of infection in the puerperal period are genital tract infection, urinary tract infection, mastitis, and complications of anesthesia. In the article we are presenting some clinical pictures of puerperal infections, their clinical signs and simptoms and their incidences in Maternity hospital Ljubljana. The incidence of all puerperal infections in our hospital is 5%. After spontaneus delivery the incidece of genital infection is 1%, after vaginal operative delivery 3%, while after cesarean section 10%. The incidece of urinary tract infection is 0,5%. No definite data are available regarding incidence of mastitis because mastitis appears infrequently in first days after delivery.
