Abstrakt     The attempt of this longitudinal field study, encompassing the period from the beginning of rehabilitation programme to six month after its completion of the sample of 65 persons with recently acquired physical disability, was to verify the theoretic construct (Wright, 1960; Dembo et al.1975) of the acceptance of disability as "value loss". Considering methodological in conceptual remarks of Kelly, Keany and Gleueckauf (1993), emphesising the absence of clear operational definitions and unproven existence of four hypothesized value changes, critical to the theory of acceptance, the Musek hierarchical model of values (Musek, 1993) was used to bring about the problem of theory verification and operationalisation of its key constructs. Study results allow better insight in the change of hierarchical structure of values, accompanying the process of physical disability. However, in contrast with theoretical construct, it was established that value changes, pertinent to acceptance of disability, occured rahter simultaneously and distinctively then consecutively and/or progressively. These changes included the totality of value space, though the values related to personal accomplishment and hedonism were more affected than the values related to personal obligations and ethics. Also, it was possible to operationalize, instead of four hypothesized value changes, only two changes: "assertion of values of personal strenght and fulfilment" and "containment of value loss of personal strenght and fulfilment", conditionally related to Wright concepts of "contaiment of disability efects" and "transformation of comparative-status values to asset values" or, applying the suggestions of Kelly, Keany and Glueckkauf in hierarchical model of Musek, to "correction of an inaccurate hierarchical shift" and "adjustment of hierarchical position of values jeopardized by psysical disabilty to their intrinsic/personal meaning".
