Abstrakt     In the prospective, randomised clinical study 4 % trisodium citrate was compared to heparin as locking solution for silastic jugular-atrial dialysis catheters. Patency rate and side events were evaluated. In 10 chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients, 7 women, 3 men with mean age 63.2 +- 10.6 years, having been on chronic HD for 5.8 +- 4.2 years, 14 silastic catheters were placed into right atrium via right jugular vein and subcutaneous tunnel was created. Bionic single lumen, fish mouth catheter was placed in 12 cases and double lumen Medcomp, Ash Split catheters in 2 cases. Mean functioning time was 5.9 +- 3.0 and 4.4 +- 3.1 months for heparin and citrate, respectively. Nine of 14 catheter have been removed for septicaemia. (2), malfunction (4), decubital necrosis of the skin (1), for AV fistula was constructed (1) and because patient was switched to CAPD. Conclusions: 4% trisodium citrate as locking solution for silastic atrial catheters provide com parable patency rate of the catheters compared to heparin. No serious side events were observed when 4%.
