Abstrakt | Since depression is relatively difficult to recognise, it very often remains undiagnosed or is only recognised when the clinical picture is already profoundly expressed and the condition requires a much smore complicated therapeutic approach. Depression is a mental health disorder that should be recognised and appropriately treated as early as possible. The clinical picture of depression is characterised by a range of signs and symptoms of different intensity which can appear in different combinations, including somatic signs acrd symptoms, emotional and mental disorders, disturbances of memory and volition, a change in the attitude towards life and the future and a changed self-image. Recognition of depression is the precondition for a correct decision on the most appropriate treatment plan. Since tire general/family physician is the first to come into contact with the patient, the outcome of this part of the diagnostic procedure has an important impact on future therapeutic management of the patient and, consequently, on the treatment outcome itself. | |
