Abstrakt		Immunity is constituted by several mechanisms which evolved to protect host organisms against infectious diseases. Microorganisms use different strategies to elicit the host immune responses. The immune system must be able to combat with all possible pathogens and their virulence factors. The differences among pathogens reflect the differences in the immune responses that are effective in distinct infectious disease. The protective immune mechanisms are different against intra- or extrecellular bacteria. In the article we also describe some of our studies of immune response against bacterial infections.
Izvleček		Imunost proti bakterijam omogočajo številni mehanizmi, ki so se izoblikovali med evolucijo. Mikrobi na zelo raznolike načine skušajo obiti gostiteljev imunski odziv. Imunski sistem se mora na to prilagajati. Zaradi različnih lastnosti posameznih bakterijskih vrst so ob okužbah nekatere vrste imunskega odziva pomembnejše od drugih. Določeni mehanizmi so na primer bolj učinkoviti proti zunajceličnim, drugi pa proti znotrajceličnim bakterijam. V prispevku opisujemo tudi naše izkušnje pri študiju imunskega odziva ob bakterijskih okužbah.
