Abstrakt		The efficacy of removing plaque from dental implant surfaces is closely correlated with the condition of the surrounding soft tissue. The bristles of the Sonicare sonic toothbrush move at a frequency of 261 Hz (31.000 movements per second). Acoustic vibrations combined with dynamic activity of fluid in the mouth result in physical removal of dental plaque. The sonic toothbrush is more efficient in removing plaque from dental implants, controlling gingival inflammation and reducing probing depth than a hand toothbrush. Maintenance of a high level of oral hygiene prolongs the life of dental implants and reduces the need for follow-up visits to the dentist.
