Abstrakt     Background. The number of ACL injuries in increasing with development of sports. At the same time demands of the top atheletes for perfect rehabilitation dictate reconstruction of the ruptured ACL. Grafts used at the reocnstruction of anterior cruciate ligament do not have the same properties as the original/primary anterior cruciate ligament had. For that reason we are not able to restore the biomechanics of the knee joint successfully. In the assignment I estimated the results of reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament and all the factors which could influence the result of the reconstruction. I also tried to find out how the laxity of the operated knee joint changes with time after reconstruction. Methods. During the period from December 1995 to December 1998 the operation reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament with bone-patellar tendon-bone graft has been carried out on 58 injured persons. Patients had an unimpaired posterior cruciate ligament and a healthy contra-lateral knee joint. I examined 55 injured (95%) at the final control examination approximately 30 months (13-52 months) after reconstruction. To be ab;e to estimate and to compare the condition before and after reconstruction, I used Lysholm and IKDC rating system. I measured knee laxity with arthrometer KT 1000 and I put down results comparing them with the healthy side. With a help of the RTG I was able to define the position of the graft. Results. The average number of points according to Lysholm was 94,6 and that meant a marked improvement with regard to the condition before reconstruction (52 points on the average). Accordings to the IKDC rating system I have estimated 18 injured persons (33%) with A, 33 injuried persons (60%) with B and 4 injured persons with the C grade. 32 injured persons (58%) have recovered to the same acivity level (according to the IKDC) as before injury.
