Abstrakt     Introduction. As the life span lengthens, the number of patients grows and the quality of life deteriorated from the physical, psychical and social points of view. The problems related to health care of elderly population in Slovenia are becoming increasingly urgent mainly because of the growing number of the aged people and the need to rationalize the health care system. General practice plays a crucial role in health care of the elderly who are the most numerous group of patients in GP surgeries. The basis of efficient help to the elderly lies in good knowledge of their problems. Those problems include everything that old people experience as an disorder that disturbs, worries or disables them, and consequently decreases the quality of their lives. Such problems can disables them, and consequences of an illness, or independently. Many times problems of elderly are found out late or are even overlooked, and there are many reasons for that - from deafness, speaking problems, non attending medical institutions and suchlike on the patient's side, to lack of time, insufficient attemÐntion and nonsystematic approach from the side of medical staff. Along with ageing the circumstances that force a physician to change his usual approach toward a patient multiply. An active approach toward health and other problems affecting patients brings about a number of advantage: better diagnostics, better under undestanding of problems, better medical treatment, greater use of social facilities, lesser need for emergency medical care, and better quality of life in general. Objectives. The objective of research was to determine various aspects of problems affecting elederly in GP surgeries. The results of scientific analysis of these problems supposed to contribute to better finding and solving problems of the elderly, as well to rationalize the work of GPs.
