Abstrakt     A diagnosis of Warthin's tumor from fine needle aspiration biopsy specimens is rather straight-forward due to its typical cytomorphological characteristics, which consist of oncocytic and lymphatic cells in the background of amorphous debris, and proteinaceous material. We reviewed 48 Warthin's tumors that were histologically confirmed. The specimens containing elements resembling squamous cells and mucoid substance in the background caused diagnostic, dilemmas between Warthin's tumor and mucoepidermoid carcinoma in 4 cases. In one case, abundant elements resembling squamous cells rendered a diagnosis suspicious of well differentiated, squamous cell carcinoma. Although considered benign lesions, a specific diagnosis was not possible in 5 cases, since the samples contained only one or two cytological components of Warthin's tumor. On the other hand, a combination of oncocytic cells and lymphatic cells lead to diagnosis of Warthin's tumor in two cases of histologically confirmed chronic sialadenitis.
