Abstrakt     Women with epilepsy have fewer children than other women. This may be partially a personal choice, but research has indicated that women wich epilepsy have a higher rate of menstrual cycle irregularities and other gynecological problems that may interfere with fertility. It is important that such women consult a gynecologist (obstetrician) and neurologist before becoming pregnant. Seizures during pregnancy can be harmful to both fetus and mother. The use of antiepileptic drugs during pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of congenital abnormalities in the fetus. The delivery per se, however, is not more complicated. In most women with epilepsy, there are also no reservations with respect to breastfeeding, even though a small quantity of antiepileptic drugs passes into the mother's milk, since as a rule this does not affect the baby.
