Abstrakt     Dermatitis artefacta is a rare skin disorder that is self-inllicted by the patient in a fully conscious manner. We report an unusua) case of dennatitis artefacta which was produced during patch testing. The patient was a 37-year-old female hospital office worker who presented with slightly erythematous areas, partly covered with vesicles, on the sides of fingers of both hands. She claimed that the lesions appeared only during work. Patch testing demonstrated contact allergy to nickel. However, a day after the conclusion of patch testing, the patient returned and presented several "test reactions" on the test areas corresponding to samples from the workplace. The patient was later retested with the same samples, which were applied in triplicate. Again, several "late test rcactions" appeared, but thcir number and distribution did not match the distribution of the lest substances at all. The case emphasiaes that the appearance of bizarre reaction patterns during patch testing, especially in paticnts with compensation claims, should alert the physician to the possibility of artefactual lesions.
