Abstrakt     Qf the operative methods for palliative treatment of malignant esophagobronchial fistula merely the bypass fulfills all the requirements of palliation. Nevertheless, it is rarely performed because many patients with a fistula are incapable of dergoing an extensive surgical inter vention, chiefly because of lung affection. In his attempt to give the last months of the life of these patients at least a certain extent of quality, the author has tried to perform a bypass in two phases in a female patient with fistula and lung affection. In the first phase classical exclusion of. the esophagus was done, resulting in recovery of lungs. In the second phase presternal colonesophagoplasty was performed. The patient underwent the operation without difficulty. It can be con- cluded that the operative technique in two phases will make the performance of a bypass possible in many patients with esophagobronchial fistula whose lung affection makes it impossible for them to undergo the one-stage operation.
