Abstrakt     The tooth mobility is an essential part of clinical oral examination, and is of importance for diagnosis, prognosis of periodontal disease and for assessment of effects of different therapeutic procedures. By a home made electronic device we managed to distinguish between initial mobility of periodontal healthy and diseased teeth. The aim of this investigation was to test the effect of metronidazole as an adjunct to conventional periodontal therapy - the modified Widman flap procedure. It was established that selective antibiotic had consistent impact on tooth mobility, which was observable as a statistically significant decrease of inital tooth mobility a few months after flap operation, especially at 0.2 N range of loads. At the same time the control group of patients without metronidazole exhibited significant increase of initial tooth mobility. Statistically significant decrease of spirochetes morphotypes coincides with drug therapy and significant decrease of initial tooth mobility. Antibiotic therapy demonstrated an improvement of clinical parameters with regard to tooth mobility, attachment level changes and sulcus-fluid-flow rate in patients with advanced periodontitis. Regeneration of periodontal tissues after flap operation is a long lasting process with permanent trend of improvement, which can be accelerated by prescription of metronidazole
