Abstrakt     The morphometric properties of fibres, the intensity of anaerobic energy metabolism and the strucure of muscle fascicles were studied in the skeletal muscle fibres m. longissimus dorsi (MLD) and m. semimembranosus (MSM) in pigs of the Duroc (D, n = 25), Large White (LW, n = 25), German Landrace (GL, n = 25) and the Swedish Landrace (SL, n = 25) breeds. The correlation between muscle properties and growth intensity, feed conversion and body composition were also studied. 'The fibers of type 1, 2A and 2B were separated on the basis of histochemical reaction with mATPase using 10micro m thick slides. A computer - aided morphometric analysis showed that pigs of the LW breed had the smallest number of muscle fibres in MLD and MSM fascicles. The minimal diameter and cross - section area of type 2B fibres in MLD and MSM fascicles were found to be greater in pigs of the D breed than those of the other three breeds. The cross - section area of type 1 fibres in the muscles was also found to be smaller in pigs that grew more intensively. Pigs of the D breed had the largest percentages of type 1 and 2A fibres in MLD and MSM as well as the largest share of these fibres in the total area, and thus the smallest numerical and areal share of type 2B fibres. Older pigs had a smaller percentage of type 2A fibres and a greater percentage of type 2B fibres in the studied muscles. Type 2B fibres were predominant in the first layer below the perimysium in both MLD and MSM muscle fascicles, whereas the arrangement of type 1 and 2A fibres is dependent on the growth intensity of pigs. The highest FOP24 and the smallest pH24 values in MLD were measured in pigs of the D breed. The muscles with a higher normalized value of type 1 and 2A fibres within muscle fascicles (without the first layer) also had a higher pH24 value. The activity of menadion - linked a - GPDH in muscle fibres was measured microdensitometrically. (Absract truncated at 2000 characters)
