Abstrakt		Although it is of utmost importance, pharmacologic treatment of Parkinson's disease alone cannot alleviate all patients' health-related and other problems. The benefits of other, non-pharmacological treatments of extrapyramidal diseases have recently gained in standing, and a multidisciplinary approach is now favored. To achieve best results, every patient should be managed by a team of experts in the field of extrapyramidal diseases, consisting of a neurologist, nurse specialist, physio- and occupational therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and - if needed speech therapist, dietician, neurosurgeon, etc. In such a team approach, the operative and liaison role of a nurse is very important. In the USA and in some Western European countries, especially in the so-called Extrapyramidal Centres, a specific nurse profile - Parkinson's disease nurse specialist (PDNS) - has been formed. In Slovenia, no such center has been formally constituted as yet. However, at the Institute of Clinical Neurophysiology in Ljubljana, where the most severe and ambiguous forms of extrapyramidal diseases have been dealt with for years, basic principles of modern treatment, including in the team an extrapyramidal disease nurse specialist (though informal, as yet), are followed.
Izvleček		Zdravila, namenjena ljudem s Parkinsonovo boleznijo in drugimi ekstrapiramidnimi motnjami, so nedvomno ključnega pomena za izboljševanje njihovega zdravja in počutja, vendar pa so hkrati preveč potisnila v ozadje še druge bolnikove zdravstvene in druge težave, ki jih ni mogoče odpraviti ali ublažiti (le) z zdravili. Zato se vse bolj poudarja celostna, ne samo farmakološka obravnava. Pri njej mora sodelovati vrsta strokovnjakov s specifičnimi znanji nevrolog; medicinska sestra, fizioterapevt, delovni terapevt, psihiater, psiholog in, če je treba, še drugi specialisti, npr. dietetik, logoped, nevrokirurg... V skupinskem strokovnem pristopu ima pomembno izvajalsko in povezovalno vlogo medicinska sestra. V ZDA in nekaterih državah Zahodne Evrope, še posebej tam, kjer ekstrapiramidne bolezni obravnavajo v posebnih centrih, se je že uveljavil profil medicinske sestre, imenovan Parkinson's disease nurse specialist (PDNS). V Sloveniji takega centra še nimamo, si pa na Inštitutu za klinično nevrofiziologijo že vrsto let prizadevamo delati v skladu z njihovimi načeli. V tem smislu se je tudi pri nas že uveljavil, zaenkrat sicer še neformalno, profil medicinske sestre, specializirane za ekstrapiramidne bolezni (MSEP).
